Course Cancellation Policy
We understand that plans can change. To ensure fairness and maintain the quality of our training programs, we have established the following cancellation and refund policy:
Durham First Aid (DFA) offers a variety of courses to meet the needs of caregivers, employers, WSIB, and the public. Please ensure you book the correct course and version for your requirements. For example, courses ending in “-A” cover adult first aid, while “-C” includes children and babies. DFA is not responsible for any refunds or administration fees should you book the wrong course. Late Admittance Policy
Anyone arriving more than 15 minutes late to a course will not be admitted, regardless of the kind of course booked. There are strict requirements to each course that must be met to receive certification, and delaying the start of a course or interrupting jeopardizes the entire class experience. Anyone arriving more than 15 minutes late will be considered a no show, and will not receive a refund for the course, per the cancellation policies below.
Cancellation & Refund Policy – Certification Courses
1. Full Refund
- Cancellations made 7 or more calendar days before the course start date are eligible for a 100% refund.
2. Partial Refund
- Cancellations made between 7 and 3 calendar days before the course start date are eligible for a 50% refund.
3. No Refund
- No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 48 hours of the course start time. This includes anyone who arrives after the course begins.
4. Materials and Online Courses
- No Refunds on materials (ie Guides) already picked up from Durham First Aid Inc. Refund will be minus the cost of the materials.
- No refunds if online portion has been issued. Refunds for cancelled courses will be minus $25.00 if your chosen course has an online component that has already been issued.
Rescheduling a certification course can be done by calling the office at (905) 240-0092 a minimum of 48 hours prior to the start of the course. Rescheduling of a certification course is subject to a $25.00 administration fee.
Cancellation & Refund Policy – Instructor Courses
1. Full Refund
- Cancellations made 14 or more calendar days before the course start date are eligible for a 100% refund.
- Note: This applies only if the course guides have not yet been picked up or if they are returned to Durham First Aid in resalable condition (unopened).
2. Partial Refund
- Cancellations made between 13 and 8 calendar days before the course start date are eligible for a 50% refund.
- Note: This applies only if the course guides have not yet been picked up or if they are returned to Durham First Aid in resalable condition (unopened). If guides are not returned or not returned in resaleable condition within 1 week of cancellation, a refund of 25% of the course fee will be provided.
3. No Refund
- No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than 7 calendar days prior to the course start time. This includes anyone who arrives after the course begins.
4. Materials and Online Courses
- No Refunds on materials (i.e. Instructor Guides) already picked up from Durham First Aid Inc. Refund will be minus the cost of the materials.
- No refunds if online portion has been issued. Refunds for cancelled courses will be minus $50.00 if your chosen course has an online component that has already been issued.
Rescheduling a course can be done by calling the office at (905) 240-0092 a minimum of 4 calendar days prior to the start of the course, subject to a $250.00 administration fee.
Participants are expected to complete all pre-course work, as outlined in the “Fundamentals of Instruction Pre-Course Assignments” instruction sheet and the “Discipline Specific FAI Course” instruction sheet. If you are unprepared for the course, you will be rescheduled to a new course date at your own expense. No refunds will be given for students who have not completed the required pre-course work as that is considered a cancellation with less than 7 calendar days notice.
Cancellation & Refund Policy – Advanced Training Courses (FR, EMR, REMOTE, WILDERNESS)
1. Full Refund
- Cancellations made 14 or more calendar days before the course start date are eligible for a 100% refund.
2. Partial Refund
- Cancellations made between 13 and 8 calendar days before the course start date are eligible for a 50% refund.
3. No Refund
- No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than 7 calendar days prior to the course start time. This includes anyone who arrives after the course begins.
4. Materials and Online Courses
- No Refunds on materials (ie Guides) already picked up from Durham First Aid Inc. Refund will be minus the cost of the materials.
- No refunds if online portion has been issued. Refunds for cancelled courses will be minus $25.00 if your chosen course has an online component that has already been issued.
Rescheduling a course can be done by calling the office at (905) 240-0092 a minimum of 4 calendar days prior to the start of the course, subject to a $200.00 administration fee.
Cancellation & Refund Policy – Private Bookings
For organizations or private bookings of 8 people or above, the following cancellation and refund policy applies:
Deposit
A non-refundable deposit of 50% of the maximum course capacity is required on booking. For example, if the total capacity is 30 people, a deposit equivalent to 15 registrations is required based on the quoted cost.
Individual Cancellations:
Full Refund
- Individual cancellations above and beyond the deposit amount that are made 7 or more calendar days before the course start date are eligible for a 100% refund.
Partial Refund
- Individual cancellations above and beyond the deposit amount that are made between 7 and 3 calendar days before the course start date are eligible for a 50% refund.
No Refund
- No refunds or invoice adjustments will be issued for individual cancellations made within 48 hours of the course start time. This includes anyone who arrives after the course begins.
Course Cancellations:
No refunds will be given for the deposit paid at the time of course booking. Should a change need to be made to the course dates, please contact the Durham First Aid office at (905) 240-0092 a minimum of 14 calendar days prior to the course start date to make arrangements. An administration fee of $100.00 will be charged.
Cancellation & Refund Policy – Provider Cancellations
In the event that Durham First Aid Inc. needs to cancel a course due to unforeseen circumstances (i.e. insufficient numbers to run the course or instructor illness), we will:
- Transfer the learner into an alternate course date, at no additional cost to the learner.
- Issue a full refund only if no alternate course date is available, and no guides have been obtained by the learner.
